Brewing Tips
Natural processed coffees benefit from careful brewing. With a few simple adjustments, you can highlight the fruit, sweetness, and balance of this coffee.
Water Temperature
Use water between 94°C and 96°C. This helps extract the sweetness and enhances the delicate aromatics.
Brew Ratio
Start with a 1:16 ratio. For example, use 15g of coffee to 240g of water. This allows the fruit notes to shine without becoming too heavy.
Grind Size
Use a medium grind, slightly finer than sea salt. This supports even extraction and a balanced cup.
Bloom
Allow a 30 to 45 second bloom using twice the weight of the coffee in water. This helps release gases and improves consistency.
As a result, you will achieve a clean, vibrant, and well balanced cup.
Our roasting team carefully curates exceptional single origin coffee beans throughout the year, featuring a new origin each month sourced from some of the world’s most renowned coffee-growing regions. Burundi Kigina Natural Filter Coffee
A High Altitude Natural Bourbon
Overview
Burundi Kigina natural filter coffee is a high altitude Bourbon microlot from Burundi. It is grown at 1,730 masl and naturally processed for a vibrant, fruit-forward profile. As a result, the cup is bright, expressive, and clean. Expect tropical fruit, strawberry sweetness, and a smooth, tea-like finish.
Origin and Community
This natural filter coffee comes from Kigina Hill in Bujumbura Mairie Province. The region is known for producing high quality Burundi coffee due to its altitude and fertile soil.
A total of 92 smallholder farmers contribute to this microlot. They work closely with Migoti Coffee Company to improve quality and long term sustainability.
One key contributor is Gaspard Nahimana. He tends around 3,800 coffee trees. These trees are at different stages of maturity. As a result, his farm continues to develop in both quality and scale.
Natural Process and Production
This coffee is processed at the Kinama Washing Station. Only ripe cherries are selected before being dried on raised beds.
Because of this process, the coffee develops deeper sweetness and a fuller body. As a result, the cup becomes more fruit forward. At the same time, it maintains clarity and balance.
Flavour Profile
This coffee offers a bright and layered profile. As a result, each flavour is clearly defined in the cup.
You will notice tropical fruit and strawberry notes first.
Then, crisp red apple acidity begins to develop.
Finally, delicate bergamot and a clean, tea-like finish bring balance.
High Altitude Advantage
This coffee is grown at 1730 metres above sea level. At this altitude, cherries ripen slowly.
As a result, the beans develop higher sugar content and density. This leads to improved sweetness, clarity, and structure in the cup.
